8 Ways to Be Active for Stay At Home Moms


You're a stay at home mom and you want to be more active with your kids but don't have time or energy?


Here are 8 ways for you to get active with your children while being able to spend quality time together as well!


The most important thing is that you find what works best for YOU and YOUR family so if one of these doesn't work then feel free to try something else. Just remember that it's okay not always having the energy or time because we all have busy lives but just do whatever it takes to keep moving forward in any way possible!





You don't need to be a stay at home mom to know the struggle of being active.


It's hard enough just trying to get your workouts in when you're working outside the house, let alone when you have kids. It can seem impossible! But it doesn't need to be that way. Just try these 8 tips for staying fit even with kids around!


1) Take walks together as a family.

Going for walks as a family is not only a great way to stay active as a stay at home mom but also a way to bond as a family.

Kids love walking and exploring new areas near their home or on vacation too and it's great for them because they'll learn about nature, get some exercise, and bond with their parents. Try walking in a park and letting your kids play on the swings or jungle gym while you do some laps around the area. You could also walk down by the beach, through downtown streets, or just around your neighborhood for exercise too!





2) Take them on long walks instead of rides to the store.

This will help you save money by not having to spend money on gas for your car but it'll also be good form of exercise as well as teach your children about spending time together without technology getting in the way since they won't have tablets, phones, video game consoles, etc with them during those walks. Plus if you live near the beach then it's even better because they can enjoy playing and being active outdoors while you get your exercise and enjoy a walk on the beach.


3) Go swimming!

Swimming is one of the best forms of exercises for adults and kids alike because it's low i

mpact which means there won't be much stress on their joints but even better than that is that children love to swim and most will quickly learn how to swim independently once they discover how fun it can be. If you take a trip to the pool often then this could also help with bonding time because by going together as a family every week or so then it'll become like another weekly tradition for you all. The bonus is that if they know how to swim then they can actually protect themselves in case of an accident and at least have some way of getting back to safety which is a much better alternative than not being able to swim at all.





4) Ride a bike with them!

Whether you're biking around downtown or through your neighborhood, riding bikes together as a family is a great way for everyone to get exercise and have fun doing it! And if you live in an area where the weather can be unpredictable then even better because there will always be times when you have nothing else to do outside but wait out the rain or whatever other weather so why not take that time to bond with your children while also getting some exercise? Plus unlike swimming bicycles don't require any special certifications or classes before using them so anyone can use one whether they know how to ride already or not! Try taking your children on fun bike rides ranging from going through the park, down a path or road that you've never explored before, up and down hills in your area, etc. One of my favorite things to do as a kid with my parents was getting ice cream after riding bikes for long stretches. Bonus points if you can ride all year long or at least during most seasons!


5) Dance and play around with them!

When I was growing up playing games like hide-and-seek, tag, jump rope, dance parties, or even just throwing balls back and forth were a big part of how we spent our time while being active together. These are still great low key ways to be active but also super fun! You'll be able to bond with them and have lots of fun doing it while getting some physical activity. Plus you'll be setting a great example for your children as well because they won't have digital entertainment to distract them from having fun with their family, just one another.


6) Play outside!

Whether its going to the park and playing on the swings or jungle gym, climbing trees, making forts out in nature, etc or creating games inside like hide-and-seek, jump rope, tag, dance parties (like I mentioned earlier), bowling/tennis/ping pong/pool party indoors then whatever you do together will be perfect! Children love being active and even more so if it's with their parents.

Outdoors is always best but sometimes when you need to get out of the house or when weather doesn't allow you to play outdoors then just as long as you're doing something together that involves physical activity then it's okay.


7) Play sports!

Sports are a great way for your children and their friends, siblings, etc. to get active because they'll be involved in teamwork and friendly competition where everyone can have fun while also being physically active. Plus if there is no one around playing outside then it's perfectly fine for parents to play with their children too whether it's learning how to hit a baseball, kick a soccer ball, do a karate move or some other form of self defense/martial arts move etc., play catch with them in the front yard (or inside if weather doesn't permit), get out a tennis racket and badminton set and play with them, etc. A lot of parents are afraid that they will look stupid or not be able to keep up but as long as you're having fun then it doesn't matter how much better your child is doing than you at the time because there's always next time where you can definitely improve! It's about having fun together and enjoying being active.


8 )Take the stairs instead of the elevator/escalator!

If you work in a building that has elevators or escalators then take those stairs! Even if you don't work there often just choose to walk up and down the stairs every now and again instead of using any type of elevator. This definitely helps in staying active and is good for you too but makes sure to take the stairs on the way up because it's easier on your heart (just be careful not to have any heart issues) and knees than taking them down. Sometimes our bodies need a change of pace though, after all, so if that happens then just make sure you're still getting regular exercise. It's better to choose the stairs all of the time but sometimes it's nice just to enjoy whatever else may be going on or whatever other activities bring happiness so don't always force yourself to walk up those stairs if you know walking down will save you some time or get into another activity more quickly!




But You Have to CHOOSE To

The most important thing is to make the choice to be active by finding and creating ways to continually move.


It can be hard to WANT to, especially if you're exhausted. Having fun activities for the whole family to do together will definitely help, but please don't let that take away from your own need to be active! If you're not 100% sure what else to do, it's okay. Just keep researching and reading up on ways to stay active. You'll find plenty of resources all over the internet , so this is just one (one we hope is a helpful).


Our biggest tip is to remember to prioritize yourself. Fill your own cup in order to pour out into others.
